Austin, Texas--To celebrate Christmas at the Texas Capitol, Representative Greg Bonnen (Friendswood) and Kim presented the District 24 ornament that is displayed on the Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree in the House Chamber at the Texas State Capitol.
"Kelly's ornament was chosen to represent the spirit and tradition of Galveston County during the holidays in Austin. Kim and I have lived, worked, and raised our family in these communities; and we are honored to bring a symbol of home to the State Capitol. The creativity and craftsmanship of Kelly's work make a beautiful addition to the Capitol Christmas tree."
The ornament highlights some of the sights that make district 24 unique. Local artist Kelly Halbach donated her time and talent painting the District 24 ornament in a way that showcases the unique character of our communities.
Background about the District Ornament Project: the district ornament project was initiated in 2009 to give all of the unique Texas communities a place on the Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree in the Chamber of the Texas House of Representatives. The ornaments were placed on the tree on December 6, 2013, and will remain on display through January 2, 2014. The story of each ornament is documented in an album in the House Chamber so that visitors to the Capitol may learn the story behind each ornament.
