RepresentativeGreg Bonnen, MD presents House District 24 Ornament

RepresentativeGreg Bonnen, MD presents House District 24 Ornament Designed by Mrs. Sandy Martin’s Kindergarten Class at Westwood-Bales Elementary

Austin, Texas--To celebrate Christmas at the Texas Capitol, Representative Greg Bonnen (Friendswood) and Kim presented the District 24 ornament that is displayed on the Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree in the House Chamber at the Texas State Capitol.

“Kim and I chose this ornament because the bluebonnets adorning it were made by kindergarten students from Galveston County. Being parents ourselves, we are extremely proud of the teachers and educational administrators in District 24 and their tireless efforts to help our community's children become successful in an ever-changing and increasingly competitive world.” said Representative Bonnen.  “This ornament celebrates these individuals and their students while also serving as a wonderful addition to the Capitol Christmas tree.”

The bluebonnets on the District 24 ornament were created with the fingerprints of kindergarten students. In addition to the obvious significance of bluebonnets to Texas, the fact that they were created by young students signifies the value Representative Greg Bonnen places on education.

Background about the District Ornament Project: the district ornament project was initiated in 2009 to give all of the unique Texas communities a place on the Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree in the Chamber of the Texas House of Representatives.  The ornaments were placed on the tree on December 4, 2014, and will remain on display through January 3, 2015.  The story of each ornament is documented in an album in the House Chamber so that visitors to the Capitol may learn the story behind each ornament.
